Damascus.A stone paste tile, the background painted in underglaze cobalt-blue. The design showing a spray of foliage with branches terminating in various flower heads including a tulip and carnations painted in turquoise, green and manganese purple. A bird, painted in blue and manganese purple sits on a white carnation. Remnants of a painted border run vertically down the right edge. 18th century. 9.5 x 8.5in. {24.2 x 21.6 cm.}
Damascus.A stone paste rectangular border tile. A large intamani design in white, sage green and manganese purple against a blue ground dominates the whole tile. A thin turquoise border runs along each of the longer edges.Late 16th. century.5 x 9 in. {12.7 x 22.8 cm.}

Damascus. A square, stone paste tile. The design, a tulip head with a dot motif set among saz leaves and other foliage, painted in cobalt blue, turquoise, manganese purple and apple green with thin black outlines on a white ground. 16th century9.1x 9.2 in. {23 x 23.1 cm.}


Egypt or Syria.A stone paste squared-off hexagonal tile, the white ground painted in black with two intersecting triangles to form a six-pointed star. The six triangles between the points of the stars are filled with bands of triple lines interspersed with tight scrolls. All around a central flower surrounded by a wreath of leaves and tendrils. Early 15th century.6 x 6.75 in.{15.2 x 17.2 cm.}

Egypt or Syria.Stone paste squared-off hexagonal tile. The off-white ground is painted in black with two intersecting triangles to form a six-pointed star, with subsidiary floral motifs. The unusual central motif, also painted in blue, is a Chinese inspired phoenix set amongst tendrils.15th century.5.75 x 6.6 in. {14.6 x 16.7 cm.}


Ottoman Turkey or Syria.A stone paste tile, the very pale green ground decorated in underglaze cobalt-blue, turquoise and bole red with lotus heads midway on each side all around a central pair of swirled saz leaves.First half of the 16thcentury9.8 x 9.9 in. {25.1 x 25.2 cm.}


Egypt or Syria.A stone paste squared-off hexagonal tile painted in underglaze cobalt-blue. A Chinese inspired foliate design showing two leaf-like elements on either side of a sweeping upward tendril that terminates in a spray of foliage. All these elements are interspersed with acquatic tendrils.15th century 5.75 x 7 in. {12.7 x 22.8 cm.}

Egypt or Syria.Stone paste hexagonal tile. The off-white ground painted with two intersecting triangles to form a six-pointed star with subsidiary dot and vine motifs. The center having a Chinese inspired flower design surrounded by scroll and vine.Early 15th century7.5 in. diameter {19 cm.}


Damascus, SyriaA stone paste tile, the design painted with an underglaze of cobalt blue, turquoise and olive green. A central cartouche enclosed within a shield-like element surrounded by arabesques, the whole enclosed within a wreath of white flowers. 17th century8.5 x 8.5 in. {21.6 x 21.6 cm.}


Damascus, SyriaStone paste border tile. The white ground painted with a vigorous chintamani design in blue, green and turquoise. This tile also has a border line to an inner panel.16th/17th century5.15 x 9.25 in. {13 x 23.7 cm.}


Ottoman Turkey. Iznik tile with underglaze-painted stencilled designs in blue and turquoise. The style is associated with tiles on the facade of the Circumcision chamber at Topkapi Saray. Mid 16th century.6.75 x 8.5 in. {21.6 x 17.2 cm.}


Damascus, Syria A stone paste tile. The design of four floral motifs in opposing corners, painted on a white ground in cobalt-blue, turquoise, green and lavender and joined in the center with a rosette.18th century.9 x 9 in. {22.9 x 22.9 cm.}

Damascus, SyriaA stone paste tile, the white ground painted in cobalt-blue. black and turquoise with a lattice of split palmettes and arabesques overlaid by a similar arrangement of flower-heads and palmette vine.mid 16th century11.75 x 10.5 in. {30 x 26.5 cm.}
